The Editor and Publisher of Diversity Magazine is a native of Mobile, Alabama. A graduate of Blount High School, class of 1981, Carol Osburn saw the need for a Black owned magazine that spoke directly to her community. However, that was not her first career choice.
"I wanted to be a cosmetologist. That was my calling, so I went to Bishop State Community College," Osburn explained.
However, Carol would eventually journey into the world of media, similar to what her Uncle did.
"We needed a spotlight in Mobile for the little people who do good in our community. So I went to the University of South Alabama to study Journalism. In 2015 I started publishing Diversity Magazine."
"When asked why I started, I always respond the same way. There is good in all communities. Let's spotlight the good things coming out of Mobile, Alabama. The public needs to see it," she explained.
And when asked how the process has been, Osburn says the reaction from the community has been the most rewarding part.
"It has been amazing! I have met so many friendly people, and it's always refreshing to hear someone say they love Diversity Magazine. That's what keeps me going."
